Scholarships and Financial Assistance

A variety of scholarships are available in the Native American Center. We encourage you to apply for as many scholarships as you can, not only your Tribal scholarship.


Scholarships and Workshops

The Fall application opens March 15 and closes June 25. You are encouraged to apply well in advance of the closing date.

San Juan College Financial Aid Office offers workshops for those planning to attend college. Participants will review financial aid procedures and complete a Financial Aid application during the workshop. Those attending are asked to bring their federal tax information, which is important to complete the application fully. Contact the Financial Aid Office at (505) 566-3323 for more information.

The Wells Fargo Scholarships for Undergraduate American Indian and Alaska Native Students will fund full-time and degree-seeking college freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors who hold a current GPA of 2.7 or higher with up to $5,000 for one year of study in any chosen major at any accredited institution in the United States. Recipients must be able to prove individual membership or descent from either a U.S. federally-recognized or U.S. state-recognized American Indian tribe or Alaska Native group through submission of the AIGC Tribal Eligibility Certificate (TEC). While Federal Pell Grant eligibility is not a requirement, students must prove financial need through submission of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the AIGC Financial Needs Form (FNF). The scholarship may be renewable depending on academic growth and availability of funds.

Eligibility

  • Student must hold a current GPA of 2.7 or higher
  • Applicants may be a college freshman, sophomore, junior or senior.
  • Must prove enrollment in a U.S. federally-recognized or U.S. state-recognized American Indian tribe or Alaska Native group
